Currently a Senior Lecturer at the University of Cape Town specialising in ecommerce, the economics of technology and ICT4D. Adheesh sees himself as primarily as a researcher and a facilitator of knowledge transfer. From a research perspective, he has presented in a number of conferences and published journals. While doing so, he ensures that he stays up to date with emerging trends and thought leadership by remaining actively involved in industry through consulting.

Mpho Sekwele has over ten years of corporate work experience in the retail industry, focusing on retail planning, buying and project management for Blue Chip retail companies in Africa. Mpho is passionate about youth and women empowerment, through contemporary African Heritage Clothing and Accessories made by
young women in Africa, are sold globally.

Simon is the CEO of Activate Commerce and a partner in Sportal, both ecommerce startups. Simon has been active in technology in SA since 1994 when he joined SEGA Interactive as Marketing Manager for Africa. He has also headed up marketing at top international technology companies such as World Online and iTouch. Simon left iTouch UK in 2003 to set up Fontera, a boutique mobile marketing company that offered cutting edge mobile, web and social media solutions to some of the world’s top brands across three continents. Simon grew Fontera into a global technology group with offices in London, Atlanta and Cape Town. Fontera Digital Works was Africa’s first Magento Solution Partner and provided ecommerce services to brands around the world.

James runs Vane, an ecommerce agency helping e-tailers market and sell their products and services online using Magento and WooCommerce and building relationships with the popular ecommerce CRM – OroCRM. Leaderless is an educational platform teaching disruptive technologies like Blockchain, Internet Of Things, 3D printing and how to ship these products using Ecommerce.

The is an annual ride from Johannesburg to Cape to prepare citizens for potential job losses due to digital disruption. A strong focus on building trust in Ecommerce will be central to this event in order to teach people how to take ownership using technology.

Dylan Piatti currently serves in a business advisory role as Senior Chief of Staff for the African Consumer & Industrial Products Industry group of Deloitte – the largest industry globally and on the continent – working with clients through the value chain from manufacturers to retailers.

He Co-Chairs the Ecommerce Forum South Africa (EFSA) & Chairs the Africa Integration Portfolio; As a Board member he leads the future growth strategy for iconic Arts NGO MIDM.

Alastair Tempest | Ecommerce Forum of AfricaAlastair

Alastair has spent most of his life working in Brussels, Belgium, for, among others, Readers’ Digest, and latterly the Federation of European Direct and Interactive Marketing. He was active in privacy, alternative dispute systems, co-regulation and self-regulation, ecommerce and postal issues.

He sat on the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Marketing and ICT Commissions; the Unsolicited Communications Enforcement Network (UCENet); and was elected a member of the Universal Postal Union Consultative Committee.

He moved to South Africa in 2011 to work for the DMASA on the POPIA law. He ran the DMASA for 2 years, leaving to set up the EFSA. He and his wife, Lauretta Ngakane, set up Conock Consultancy to provide expertise in Privacy in 2014.

Tebogo currently heads up a social enterprise which he founded in 2012 called Lefa Cooperative. Lefa, a Sotho word meaning “Legacy” or “Inheritance, is a cooperative focused on empowering communities with affordable access to online education and skills programs focused on the 4IR, with the aim of empowering youth from township and rural communities to participate meaningfully in the Digital Economy.

He also recently served as convener of the National Ecommerce Working Group within the National ICT Forum as established by Minister of DTPS, Honorable Dr Cwele. He currently serves on the Ecommerce Advisory Committee within the FSCA whose role is to advise the Minister of Finance on digital trends that impact the financial services industry.

He also serves as Board Chairperson for Bokamoso Youth Life Center which focuses on youth development through the creative arts.

Paris has worked with small, medium and large businesses to establish unique, customer-centric digital solutions, from digital marketing, strategy and systems development to complete value-chain ecommerce business operations.

Paris comes from various spheres of business, focusing on digital, including owning a boutique digital media agency, working with leading international luxury brands, and currently heading up ecommerce and digital for Edcon, the largest non-food retailer in South Africa.


General Manager at Courier IT

Brent Walker is the current international general manager for Courierit (PTY)LTD. Brent has over twenty years’ experience in the courier industry, of which for the past eleven years, has been operating in the international sector of the industry. Brent specializes in setting up distribution networks especially in Africa, Europe and the USA. A key part of his portfolio at Courierit is to provide ecommerce companies distribution solutions including Customs compliance globally.
